Dha (dihydroxacetone) is a non- toxic sugary molecule which,
on binding with the proteins in the epidermis, forms polymers
called melanoids. These give a tanned look to the skin.
As often happens, the Dha’s ability of giving a tan
colour to the skin , was discovered purely by chance in 1920
by a certain Dr. Wittgenstein who noticed that in diabetics
who used dha as a sweetener their skin took on a brownish colouring.
This colour could not be washed off.
It was in the 1950s, however, when the first fake tanners
based on dha were put on the market.Contrary to the modern
ones, these products gave the skin an orange tint.
Now, dha is used in an aerosol compound and the result is completely
different from the fake tan you get from uv rays because:
- it doesn’t age the skin
- it doesn’t cause wrinkles
- it doesn’t burn
- it doesn’t cause skin rashes
- it doesn’t cause any kind of problem
This method is especially indicated for people with a fair
or very fair complexion since it doesn’t stimulate melanocytes
(very scarce in fair- skinned people) and so tans without causing
any harm.
Moreover, there are no restrictions in its use so everyone
is free to decide on the depth of colour they want. The only
rule is that you must wait for six hours between treatments.
On top of all this, there is no heat involved, so you don’t
feel hot after the treatment
